2. Bake cakes & then sell them to us here – Yes please!!! We tend to need a ‘pick me up’ around 3pm each day so we would welcome your little angels & their treats they’d like to sell to us all on any day of the week. To give them a kick start here’s a yummy, easy to bake recipe…

Snickerdoodles

1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups sifted flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Preheat oven to 180C degrees. In a mixing bowl, mix together shortening, sugar, & eggs thoroughly. In a separate bowl, mix together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Stir into shortening mixture. Shape dough into 5cm balls. Roll in mixture of 2 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon. Place 10cm apart on ungreased baking sheet and bake 8-10 minutes.

We’re waiting!!!!

3. Give their bedroom a makeover – It need not cost a bomb & maybe it will only consist of a big tidy up & moving around some furniture. Kids love a change….If you’re up to something a little more adventurous & don’t want to spend a fortune, then check out these snazzy ideas…

Buy some fun coloured bags & hang them on big, brightly coloured hooks on the wall. Your guys can then fill the pockets with their “stuff.”

Hang a clothesline across a large wall. Use large, colourful pegs & hang photographs & your child’s artwork on it.

Pick up some inexpensive plastic bins in bright colours & use them to hold shoes, books, school supplies & other items in your child’s room.

If you feel like getting stuck into some painting….why not add a splash of colour to surfaces such as a ceiling fan, dresser top or part orf a cupboard? Magnetic paint & chalk paint very quickly transforms a drab wall into hours of entertainment for next to nothing!!!

4. Make your own play dough…..yeah! Who doesn’t love a bit of play dough!!! You have to make this…

2 cups plain flour, 1 cup salt, 1 tablespoon cooking oil, ½ – 1 cup cold water, 2 drops of food colouring.

Combine plain flour & salt. Add water, food colouring & oil. Mix until ingredients are all combined. Knead well. If consistency is too wet, add more flour.

5. Go 2 Little Manly Kiosk in Manly – Little Manly beach is Sydney’s best kept secret. A family friendly spot just a short stroll from the hustle & bustle of Manly. Catering for the kiddies there’s a beach right there too… where? On the beach @ Stuart Street in Manly.

Don’t forget to also check out the multitude of bush walks, beaches, libraries & local council stuff, as there truly is loads to do to keep the kids happy little chappies during the hols. Have fun folks!!!!

The Goss!
