Realtor comes to footy club's aid

WAKEHURST Soccer Club’s under-7s’ season is back on track after a local real estate agent offered to replace the side’s stolen jerseys.

A bag containing the team’s shirts was stolen last month from the back seat of Michelle Chapman’s car while it was parked at her Belrose home.

The team was forced to play in the club’s only spare kit while a replacement was sought.

Antonios Kanis, of The Novak Agency at Dee Why, was incensed at the theft and decided to donate the $300 needed to buy the boys new uniforms.

“The story was on the front page of the paper and being a big sports guy who used to play soccer, I couldn’t believe that a low life would steal the jerseys from a car,” he said.

“Clubs struggle as it is to attract sponsors and fundraise. I just felt this was something small I could do to help.”

Ms Chapman said the parents, players and the club were grateful for Mr Kanis’s generosity.

“We weren’t able to recover the jerseys but fortunately we received this wonderful offer,” she said. “It’s great that the money did not have to come out of the club’s pocket.”
